Serum and CSF cytokine profile in patients with facial palsy (Bell's palsy): a pilot study. (PubMed, J Neurol)
Compared to healthy individuals, our study revealed an altered cytokine profile in patients with BP that resembles patients with nipFP. In CSF, a subset of cytokines was identified in patients with BP, but higher levels were found in patients with nipFP, suggesting a graduated inflammatory process.

The glycolytic pathway plays a critical role in the metabolic reprogramming of tumor cells during lung adenocarcinoma brain metastasis. Tumor glycolysis is closely associated with lung cancer progression, brain metastasis, and immune evasion. The Rac2 could be affected by lactylation, and then facilitate the formation of an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by induce the M2 polarization of macrophages.

Collectively, our findings uncover a critical PARVB-driven signaling cascade that reprograms macrophages into an immunosuppressive M2 phenotype, facilitating immune escape and cervical cancer progression. Effects of novel sulfated-rhamnoglucuronan isolated from Korean seaweed Ulva pertusa on IgA-mediated intestinal-immune system activation in naïve C3H/HeN mice. (PubMed, Int J Biol Macromol)
Additionally, fecal analysis demonstrated an increase in short-chain fatty acids, including acetic, propionic, and butyric acids, in a dose- and administration period-dependent manner. These findings suggest that UPP administration contributes IgA-related immune responses and intestinal immune system modulation via PP cells.

The newly associated proteins indicated the involvement of complement (C1S and C1R), microglia (SIRPA, SIGLEC9 and PRSS8) and lysosomes (CLN5) in Alzheimer's disease; the interleukin-6 pathway (CTF1) in Parkinson's disease; lysosomes (TPP1), blood-brain barrier integrity (MFAP2) and astrocytes (TNFSF13) in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; and blood-brain barrier integrity (VEGFB), oligodendrocytes (PARP1), node of Ranvier and dorsal root ganglion (NCS1, FLRT3 and CDH15) and the innate immune system (CR1, AHSG and WARS) in multiple sclerosis. Our study demonstrates how harnessing large-scale genomic and proteomic data can yield new insights into the role of the plasma proteome in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.

Cancer-secreted exosomal miR-1246 promotes colorectal cancer liver metastasis by activating hepatic stellate cells. (PubMed, Mol Med)
Our study reveals the role of CRC-secreted exosomal miR-1246 in triggering HSC activation and reprogramming the TME, ultimately facilitating liver metastasis in CRC patients. Exosomal miR-1246 could serve as a potential non-invasive biomarker for predicting colorectal cancer liver metastasis, enhancing our understanding of CRC-associated liver metastases.

DNA methylation changes in association with trauma-focused psychotherapy efficacy in treatment-resistant depression patients: a prospective longitudinal study. (PubMed, Eur J Psychotraumatol)
Stratified analyses by type of trauma-focused psychotherapy showed statistically significant adjusted p-value area in 141 DMRs only for the group of patients receiving EMDR, with annotated genes related to inflammation and psychiatric disorders, including LTA, GFI1, and S100A8. Gene set enrichment analyses in the EMDR group indicated biological processes related to inflammatory response, particularly the TNF signalling pathway. We provide preliminary valuable insights into global DNA methylation changes associated with trauma-focused psychotherapies effects, in particular with EMDR treatment.

Correlation of PIM kinases with tumor immune microenvironment and clinical presentation of metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. (ASCO-GU 2024)
These data indicate a strong association of PIM expression with increased MAPK activation score, T cell inflamed score, inflammatory, PSA, AR, MHC class I and MHC class II gene expression, and differential immune cell infiltration. However, this did not significantly translate to a worse clinical presentation of mHSPC. A better understanding of these differences with additional research may provide a rationale for tailored therapeutic approaches for PIM-expressing mHSPC.
