SOD1 at the Crossroads: Co-Overexpression of Canonical Antioxidant Response and Noncanonical Hydrogen Sulfide Generation Pathways in Down Syndrome, With Immune Cell Implications. (PubMed, Res Sq)
Conversely, the increased expression of a thioredoxin-dependent cysteine catabolism pathway suggests noncanonical H 2 S overproduction in DS distinct from CBS . Our findings highlight the unexpected relationship between oxidative stress homeostasis and H 2 S overproduction in DS, extending beyond Hsa21 trisomy.

Effects of phosphatidylserine supplementation on growth performance, lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity, and inflammatory response of juvenile large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) fed with high soybean oil diets. (PubMed, Comp Biochem Physiol B Biochem Mol Biol)
Furthermore, PS reduced hepatic pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA levels: tumor necrosis factor α(tnf-α), cyclooxygenase 2 (cox-2), and interleukins (il-6, il-1β). In conclusion, dietary inclusion of 0.006%-0.018% PS effectively enhanced growth and antioxidant capacity, altered lipid handling, and affected transcriptional inflammatory responses.

SMYD2 promotes oxidative stress-responsive lipid metabolism in melanoma by regulating H3K4 tri-methylation. (PubMed, J Dermatol Sci)
SMYD2 functions as an oncogene in melanoma by epigenetically upregulating antioxidant genes SOD1 and GPX1, thereby alleviating oxidative stress and driving lipid reprogramming. These findings uncover a novel SMYD2-oxidative stress-lipid metabolism axis and highlight SMYD2 as a potential therapeutic target in melanoma.

Short-Chain Fatty Acids Enhance EAAT2-Mediated Glutamate Clearance and Alleviate Oxidative Stress in an MPTP Mouse Model of Parkinson's Disease. (PubMed, Antioxidants (Basel))
Inhibition of EAAT2 with dihydrokainic acid (DHK) abolished the beneficial effects of SCFAs, highlighting the critical role of EAAT2 in mediating SCFA-driven neuroprotection. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that SCFAs confer neuroprotection in PD by enhancing EAAT2-dependent glutamate clearance, reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and activating Nrf2-dependent antioxidant pathways, providing a mechanistic basis for SCFA-based therapeutic strategies in PD.

L-ascorbate prevents non-alcoholic steatohepatitis-based hepatocarcinogenesis in Sod1/Prdx4 double-knockout mice. (PubMed, Sci Rep)
These results suggest that Asc supplementation and aberrant iron metabolism selectively induce the death of cells that lead to tumorigenic proliferation at the precancerous stage. Adequate intake of Asc in daily life may improve the tumorigenic process promoted by hepatic steatosis due to oxidative insult.

Melatonin alleviates cyclophosphamide-induced ovarian toxicity in mice. (PubMed, J Assist Reprod Genet)
MEL effectively preserves ovarian function in a CTX-induced POF model by protecting follicular development, hormonal balance, vascular integrity, and antioxidant defenses. These findings highlight MEL as a promising, noninvasive, and cost-effective strategy for fertility preservation in female cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Exposure to an environmentally relevant mixture of polychlorinated biphenyls affects mitochondrial bioenergetics and plasticity. (PubMed, Redox Biol)
Functional tests revealed a transient impairment of mitochondrial respiration and ATP synthesis, which was later restored, pointing to the recruitment of compensatory mechanisms. Together, these results indicate that PCB exposure activates an integrated stress response with oxidative imbalance, mitochondrial bioenergetics, remodeling, and autophagy features, revealing the neural cell vulnerability and plasticity to environmental insult.

Neuroprotective effects of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus strains against oxidative stress via modulation of Nrf2-mediated antioxidation and anti-apoptosis. (PubMed, Brain Res)
It also modulated Bcl-2-associated X protein (BAX)/B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and inhibited the activation of cysteine-aspartic acid protease-9 (caspase-9) and caspase-3, thereby alleviating oxidative stress-induced neuronal apoptosis. Thus, L. plantarum WB3809 and P. pentosaceus WB3812 have the potential to be used as functional food ingredients with neuroprotective effects via antioxidant and anti-apoptotic mechanisms.

Effects of nano-selenium on the histopathological changes and gene expression of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) spleen under heat stress. (PubMed, Fish Physiol Biochem)
After heat stress, the addition of 5 mg/kg of nano-selenium significantly increased the expression levels of spleen heat shock protein genes, such as HSP10, HSP47, HSP70, HSP90, antioxidant-related genes, such as glutathione peroxidase (GPx), thioredoxin reductase (Trx), superoxide dismutase (SOD1), catalase (CAT) and immune-related genes, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), Immunoglobulin M (IgM), Complement Component 3 (C3), resulting in the improvement of antioxidant capacity and immunity, and the protection of the spleen to alleviate the damages caused by heat stress. This study provides a theoretical basis for the development of anti-heat stress feeds for rainbow trout.
