Positive Selection Drives the Evolution of the Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) Complexes. (PubMed, Genes (Basel))
Our results support growing evidence that IDRs are fast evolving, and that they most likely contribute to adaptation through modulation of phase separation. We suggest that the natural selection signals identified in SMC complexes may be the result of different selective pressures: a host-pathogen arms race in the condensin and SMC5/6 complexes, and an intragenomic conflict for meiotic cohesin genes that is similar to that described for centromeres and telomeres.

This study identifies a causal relationship between gene expression and AML and highlights the potential role of REC8 in leukemogenesis, possibly through its impact on gametocyte meiotic abnormalities. The findings provide new insights into the prevention and treatment of leukemia.

Promoter hypermethylation and comprehensive regulation of ncRNA lead to the down-regulation of ZNF880, providing a new insight for the therapeutics and research of colorectal cancer. (PubMed, BMC Med Genomics)
CENPK, IFNGR2, REC8 and ZBTB17 were identified as the most closely functioning genes with ZNF880, which may indicate that ZNF880 has important links with the formation of cell centromere, tumor immunity, cell cycle and other pathways closely related to the occurrence of CRC. These studies show that the down-regulation of ZNF880 gene is closely related to CRC, and the targeted change of the expression of its regulatory molecules (miRNA and lncRNA) may be a new perspective for CRC treatment.
