Efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Managing Gastric Atrophy and Intestinal Metaplasia in Patients with Chronic Atrophic Gastritis: A Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial. (PubMed, Pharmacol Res)
Compared with current Western medical strategies, which primarily rely on Helicobacter pylori eradication and surveillance but offer limited efficacy in reversing established atrophy or IM, WW-1 demonstrated a favorable balance of efficacy and safety, with its therapeutic benefits primarily observed in the gastric corpus and incisura angularis. This suggests its potential as a complementary therapeutic option for CAG.

Coal Dust Nanoparticles Induce Colitis-Like Lesions in Rats via Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis and P53/SCO2/SLC7A11-Mediated Epithelial Ferroptosis. (PubMed, Dig Dis Sci)
Respiratory exposure to CD-NPs induces colitis-like lesions via gut microbiota dysbiosis and P53/SCO2/SLC7A11-mediated epithelial ferroptosis, impairing the intestinal barrier. These findings provide new insights into the health risks associated with coal dust exposure.

Eucalyptus globulus oil supplementation improves growth performance by regulating serum biochemistry, antioxidant, intestinal health, and lung health of broilers from 1 to 21 days of age. (PubMed, Front Vet Sci)
Furthermore, EGO has been shown to enhance CLDN1 and TJP1 expression (p < 0.05), while significantly reducing OCLN levels (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that, given growth performance, safety, and efficacy, an additive dosage of 200 mg/kg is recommended.

Ethnopharmacological basis and combined protection of intestinal barrier function by fucoidan from Sargassum thunbergii and chito-oligosaccharides in DSS-induced colitis. (PubMed, J Ethnopharmacol)
The enhanced protective effects of the STF-COS combination are likely attributable to their complementary pharmacological properties, with sulfated fucoidan mediating anti-inflammatory activity and low-molecular-weight COS enhancing bioavailability and epithelial repair. These findings provide experimental evidence supporting the ethnopharmacological potential of combined marine-derived polysaccharides as natural therapeutic candidates for intestinal inflammatory disorders.

A20 enhances the migration and metastasis of gastric cancer cells by promoting occludin degradation. (PubMed, Cell Death Discov)
PLA further showed that mutation of the OTU domain disrupted the interaction between A20 and RhoA in AGS cells, indicating the necessity of the OTU domain for this interaction. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that A20 promotes GC cell migration by stabilizing RhoA and facilitating occludin degradation, underscoring A20 as a potential therapeutic target to inhibit GC metastasis.

Spermidine and Eugenol Modulate Tight Junction and Stemness Markers in Colorectal Cancer Spheroids. (PubMed, Int J Mol Sci)
In particular, Occludin (OCLN), Zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), CD133, ALDH1A1, SOX2 and VE-cadherin exhibited divergent RNA and protein expression patterns depending on cell type and treatment condition. Collectively, these findings underscore the relevance of three-dimensional CRC spheroid models for molecular profiling studies and highlight the importance of integrating transcript- and protein-level analyses when evaluating bioactive compounds with potential diagnostic and translational relevance in colorectal cancer.

Isoalantolactone Ameliorates Ulcerative Colitis via Gut Microbiota-Mediated Modulation of Intestinal Barrier, T Cell Homeostasis, and Metabolite Reprogramming. (PubMed, Eur J Pharmacol)
In addition, faecal microbiota transplantation confirmed that IAL-modulated microbiota ameliorated colitis, with pseudo-germ-free recipients exhibiting improved barrier function and immune homeostasis. These findings highlight the importance of IAL as a novel therapeutic candidate for UC by modulating host-microbiota interactions; however, clinical validation is warranted.

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose as a Functional Dietary Fiber Preserves Intestinal Barrier Integrity via NF-κB Modulation Under Inflammatory Conditions. (PubMed, J Med Food)
These findings indicate that HPMC counteracts cytokine-driven epithelial barrier disruption through coordinated anti-inflammatory and barrier-stabilizing actions. Collectively, our results demonstrate that noncytotoxic HPMC (12.5-100 μg/mL) has potential as a safe pharmaceutical excipient and functional dietary fiber capable of supporting intestinal health under inflammatory conditions.

Acupoint catgut embedding ameliorates laparotomy-induced cognitive decline in aged mice by restoring gut microbiota. (PubMed, Neuroreport)
ACE alleviates POCD probably by modulating gut microbiota, specifically increasing g-Clostridia_UCG-014 abundance and metabolite IPA. These effects are potentially mediated by dual pathways: (a) suppression of neuroinflammation via TLR4/NF-κB signaling, and (b) enhancement of gut barrier integrity via AhR/IL-22 axis. Our findings highlight the therapeutic potential of ACE in targeting the gut-brain axis for POCD management.

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum WB4201, WB4202, and WB4203 Alleviate Gut Inflammatory Responses and Strengthen Barrier Function in LPS-stimulated HT-29 Cells. (PubMed, Microb Pathog)
In HT-29 cells, the strains significantly reduced sodium nitroprusside-induced nitric oxide (NO) overproduction, thus indicating their capacity to mitigate nitrosative stress...Mechanistic analyses revealed that these protective effects were associated with the inhibition of nuclear factor-kappa B activation and the suppression of mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation cascades. These findings demonstrate the anti-inflammatory and barrier-protective potential of L. plantarum WB4201, WB4202, and WB4203, thus underscoring their potential as probiotic-based interventions for intestinal health.

ABI3BP protects against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury by preserving blood-brain barrier integrity and activating PI3K/Akt signaling. (PubMed, Biochem Pharmacol)
The thrombin inhibitor dabigatran reverses the reduction of ABI3BP after I/R injury...Supplementation of recombinant ABI3BP protects against cerebral IRI by preserving BBB integrity, enhancing tight junction proteins, and suppressing endothelial apoptosis via PI3K/Akt signaling. Conclusively, these findings suggest that ABI3BP protects BBB integrity, potentially by restoring tight junction protein expression and inhibiting endothelial cell apoptosis after IRI, which suggests its promise as a therapeutic agent in ischemic stroke.
