A novel microprotein MUCP1 promotes colorectal cancer metabolic reprogramming by regulating mitochondrial succinate transport. (PubMed, Neoplasia)
This study identifies MUCP1 as a novel lncRNA-encoded microprotein that maintains metabolic homeostasis in CRC by coupling mitochondrial succinate transport to histone methylation. MUCP1 might be a promising metabolic vulnerability and therapeutic target in CRC.

MUC1 and MUC4 expression are inversely correlated and trigger immunological response and transport pathways in adult-type diffuse gliomas. (PubMed, Comput Biol Med)
To our knowledge, this is the first retrospective study and in silico analysis demonstrating the relevance and correlation of MUC1 and MUC4 in adult gliomas. These findings elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying adult-type diffuse glioma progression and highlight MUC1 and MUC4 as potential prognostic markers and therapeutic targets for glioma management.

Prognostic role of MUCIN family and its relationship with immune characteristics and tumor biology in diffuse-type gastric cancer. (PubMed, Heliyon)
Furthermore, overexpression of MUC15 and MUC20 was confirmed through qPCR and Western blotting, and their specific roles in mediating the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process of GC cells (SNU484 and Hs746t) were validated via CCK-8 assay and wound healing assay in vitro. These findings highlight the potential prognostic value of MUC20 and offer insights into the prospects of immunotherapy for DGC by targeting MUC20.

Characterizing and forecasting neoantigens-resulting from MUC mutations in COAD. (PubMed, J Transl Med)
Together, our findings establish the immunogenicity and therapeutic potential of mutant MUC family-derived neoantigens. Through combining the tools of TSNAdb and DAI, a group of novel MUCmut neoantigens were identified as potential targets for immunotherapy.

MUC20 regulated by extrachromosomal circular DNA attenuates proteasome inhibitor resistance of multiple myeloma by modulating cuproptosis. (PubMed, J Exp Clin Cancer Res)
Our findings indicated that MUC20 regulated by eccDNA alleviates PI resistance of MM by modulating cuproptosis, which would provide novel strategies for the treatment of PI-resistant MM.

In vitro model of human mammary gland microbial colonization (MAGIC) demonstrates distinctive cytokine response to imbalanced human milk microbiota. (PubMed, Microbiol Spectr)
The MAGIC cell model also offers new opportunities for research in other areas of MG physiology, such as the effects of bioactive milk components on microbial colonization of the MG, mastitis prevention, and studies of probiotic development. Since resident MG bacteria may be an important factor in breast cancer development, the MAGIC in vitro tool also offers new opportunities for cancer research.

The Mucin Family of Proteins: Candidates as Potential Biomarkers for Colon Cancer. (PubMed, Cancers (Basel))
Whereas MUC5, MUC6, MUC16, and MUC20 are absent from the normal colon and are expressed in colorectal cancers. MUC1, MUC2, MUC4, MUC5AC, and MUC6 are currently the most widely covered in the literature regarding their role in the progression from normal colonic tissue to cancer.

Impact of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on somatic mutation status in high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. (PubMed, J Ovarian Res)
Patients with advanced HGSC present with significant intra-tumor heterogeneity. NACT significantly impacts the somatic mutation status irrespective of the time to recurrence. The mutated genes detected in chemo-naive pre-NACT tumor samples from either resistant or sensitive cases could potentially have a role in the prediction of chemotherapy response in patients scheduled to receive NACT; larger studies are required to further validate these genes.
