Gastric hamartomatous inverted polyps: a clinicopathological analysis of five cases (PubMed, Zhonghua Bing Li Xue Za Zhi)
GHIP is a rare gastric polyp with unique histological features. It should be distinguished from inverted hyperplastic polyp, gastritis cystica profunda, adenomyoma, hyperplastic polyps and well-differentiated gastric tubular adenocarcinoma, etc. Improving the understanding of its pathogenesis and diagnostic features can help avoid misdiagnoses.

Histologic subtype-based evaluation of recurrence and survival outcomes in patients with adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater. (PubMed, Sci Rep)
In the cohort of 38 patients who received first-line palliative chemotherapy, a diminished median overall survival (OS) was observed in the PB group compared to the intestinal group (10.3 vs. 28.3 months, HR = 2.47; 95% CI, 1.23-4.95; p = 0.025). By integrating histopathologic and molecular criteria, we can identify distinct and clinically relevant histomolecular phenotypes in adenocarcinomas of the ampulla of Vater, which could have considerable impact on existing therapeutic approaches.

Mucin-Phenotype and Expression of the Protein V-Set and Immunoglobulin Domain Containing 1 (VSIG1): New Insights into Gastric Carcinogenesis. (PubMed, Int J Mol Sci)
Although infrequently encountered in GC, CDX2 positivity might indicate a locally advanced stage and risk for vascular invasion, especially in tumors developed against the background of IM. The loss of VSIG1 indicates a risk for lymph node metastases.

Physiological hypoxia improves growth and functional differentiation of human intestinal epithelial organoids. (PubMed, Front Immunol)
Reducing the oxygen environment from 20% to 2% in differentiated colonoids altered the expression of genes related to differentiation, metabolism, mucus lining, and immune networks. Our results suggest that colonoids studies can and should be performed in physioxia when the resemblance to in vivo conditions is important.

Medullary carcinoma of the pancreas: a case report and review of the literature (ECP 2022)
Medullary carcinoma of the pancreas is a rare entity associated with microsatellite instability, mismatch repair defects, colorectal adenocarcinoma and familial syndromes. Our case demonstrates classical morphological features including dense tumour infiltrating lymphocytes, poorly differentiated epithelial cells with syncytial growth and pushing borders. Following diagnosis, genetic counselling should be considered to exclude Lynch syndrome as this may be the first sign of an inherited cancer syndrome.

Atypical Mucin Expression Predicts Worse Overall Survival in Resectable Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma. (PubMed, J Immunol Res)
MUC1 absence or MUC2 presence is independently associated with poor OS among patients with resectable PDAC. MUC5AC absence tended to be associated with short-term death.

Ectopic Splenic Adenocarcinoma in a Dog. (PubMed, J Comp Pathol)
All neoplastic cells were negative for mucin-2, vimentin, smooth muscle actin, chromogranin A, CD31, hepatocyte paraffin 1 and thyroglobulin antigens. Because of the formation of exocrine acinus-like structures and an immunolabelling pattern consistent with exocrine pancreas tissue, an adenocarcinoma of ectopic exocrine pancreas within the spleen was diagnosed.

Sporadic foveolar-type gastric adenoma with a raspberry-like appearance in Helicobacter pylori-naïve patients. (PubMed, Virchows Arch)
The coexistence of fundic gland polyps in the background mucosa was significantly higher in multiple FGA-RA cases than in solitary cases (100% vs. 55.5%, P< 0.05). FGA-RA is a newly suggested histologic variant of sporadic FGA whose occurrence is not rare in daily endoscopic practice.

A case of intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas in a branch duct: a rare case report and literature review. (PubMed, BMC Gastroenterol)
ITPNs localized in BD are rare and diagnosis prior to surgery is difficult. In our case, the shape was round, not papillary, and with little fluid. These characteristics are different from a branch duct type IPMN and can be a clue to suspect ITPN in BD.
