In vivo, MRPL17 silencing suppressed NSCLC xenograft growth in nude mice, a phenomenon associated with reduced COX8A levels, mitochondrial dysfunction, heightened oxidative stress, and increased apoptosis. Thus, MRPL17 is an important pro-cancerous target in NSCLC, driving malignant progression through the regulation of mitochondrial function and cellular redox balance, with COX8A identified as a key mediator.

Cancer stem cells are pivotal in the mechanisms of immune evasion within the tumor microenvironment and have a substantial impact on treatment results. This study experimentally validated MRPL17 as a promising prognostic biomarker, emphasizing the need to target liver cancer stem cells to improve patient prognosis and enhance treatment effectiveness.

The role of the mitochondrial ribosomal protein family in detecting hepatocellular carcinoma and predicting prognosis, immune features, and drug sensitivity. (PubMed, Clin Transl Oncol)
We identified 14 MRP genes as HCC diagnostic markers. We investigated FRG and m6A modification-related gene expression profiles and immune features in patients with HCC, and developed and validated a model incorporating MRP and FRG expression that accurately and reliably predicts HCC prognosis and may predict disease progression and treatment response.
