The correlation between miR-21 single nucleotide polymorphisms and the susceptibility of non-small cell lung cancer. (PubMed, J Cardiothorac Surg)
The overexpression of miR-21, the miR-21 SNPs rs1292037 and rs6504593 and their interactions were associated with NSCLC susceptibility. MiR-21 and its SNPs have potential for being targets in the therapy of NSCLC. This study provided important information for the treatment of NSCLC.

Design and Optimization of Isothermal Gene Amplification for Generation of High-Gain Oligonucleotide Products by MicroRNAs. (PubMed, ACS Meas Sci Au)
Further tests with real biological samples revealed that this technique showed a good correlation with qPCR in quantifying miR-21 expression in various cell lines (0.9510 of Pearson's r), confirming its potential as a robust and rapid tool for nucleic acid detection. Therefore, the simplicity, high sensitivity, and potential for integration with POC diagnostic platforms make the HNTRCA system suitable for field deployment in resource-limited environments.

Our study defines a new functional role of PRL2 in PTEN regulation through a miR-21-dependent post-transcriptional mechanism, in addition to our previously reported NEDD4-dependent post-translational PTEN regulation. Together, these studies further establish the PRLs as negative regulators of PTEN.

Protein-Induced Electrochemiluminescence Enhancement of Tetraphenylvinyl Derivatives for Ultrasensitive Bioanalysis. (PubMed, Anal Chem)
Thus, as an application, an ECL biosensor was fabricated based on the BSA@TBPE-(CN)4 NAs as an efficient emitter and the mismatch-fueled three-dimensional (3D) DNA walker as an effective signal amplifier for the rapid and ultrasensitive detection of microRNA-21 with a detection limit (LOD) of 19.1 aM, and it was successfully applied to assess the microRNA-21 expression of human cancer cells MCF-7 and HeLa. This work developed a novel avenue to reasonably synthesize highly efficient organic ECL emitters for motivating their potential application in ultrasensitive biosensing and high-resolution ECL bioimaging.

Evaluation of Xihuang Pill in inducing pyroptosis in glioma cells through modulation of miR-21-5p. (PubMed, 3 Biotech)
Co-transfection with miR-21-5p mimic reversed the effect of Xihuang Pill on glioma pyroptosis (P < 0.05). In conclusion, Xihuang Pill promotes glioma cell pyroptosis through the STAT3/miR-21-5p pathway.

The Association of Neuroendocrine Differentiation with MicroRNA 21 and MicroRNA let7f Expression and the Clinicopathological Parameters in Primary Invasive Breast Carcinomas with Neuroendocrine Features. (PubMed, Diagnostics (Basel))
Our findings show that the presence of NEFs in breast carcinomas makes a significant difference in the expression levels of the investigated oncogenic (miR-21) and tumor-suppressor (miR-let7f) miRNAs. These findings suggest that miRNAs may be a potential biomarker in BC-NEFs and would benefit from targeted therapy.

Autophagy-associated biomarkers ULK2, UVRAG, and miRNAs miR-21, miR-126, and miR-374: Prognostic significance in glioma patients. (PubMed, PLoS One)
The low ULK2, UVRAG, and miR-374 expression group exhibited significantly poor overall survival in glioma, while miR-21 over-expression indicated a poor prognosis in glioma patients, validating it in our population. This study provides comprehensive insights into the molecular landscape of gliomas, highlighting the dysregulation of autophagy genes ULK2, and UVRAG and the associated miR-21, miR-126 and miR-374 as potential prognostic biomarkers and emphasizing their unique significance in shaping survival outcomes in gliomas within the specific context of the Pakistani population.
