We established MIA-GEM cells, a PDAC cell line resistant to gemcitabine (GEM), a first-line anticancer drug, using the human PDAC cell line-MIA-PaCa-2...Elevated MAST4 expression correlated with a poorer prognosis in PDAC. Consequently, nuclear MAST4 emerges as a potential marker for GEM resistance and poor prognosis, representing a novel therapeutic target for PDAC.

By investigating the Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC) database, we identified axitinib and taselisib as candidate compounds that could potentially target the KISS-high myeloblasts. Altogether, our findings suggest that KISS holds the potential to improve the current prognostic scheme of MDS and inform novel therapeutic opportunities.

A Systems Biology approach highlighted three major functional networks connecting the 17 MT-Rel genes and their partners, which are centered on spindle assembly, chromosome segregation and cytokinesis. Our studies identified mitotic Aurora kinases and their substrates as major targets for therapeutic approaches against breast cancer.

Glucocorticoids unmask silent non-coding genetic risk variants for common diseases. (PubMed, Nucleic Acids Res)
For example, we identified a novel breast cancer risk gene, MAST4, with expression that was repressed by glucocorticoids in cells carrying the risk genotype, repression that correlated with MAST4 expression in breast cancer and treatment outcomes. These observations provide a mechanistic framework for understanding non-coding genetic variant-chemical environment interactions and their role in disease risk and drug response.

Systematic scoping review evaluating the potential of wastewater-based epidemiology for monitoring cardiovascular disease and cancer. (PubMed, Sci Total Environ)
Finally, estimating prevalence-adjusted wastewater measurements was explored in order to assess community-level CVD and cancer presence utilizing U.S. reported prevalence rates. Results obtained suggest that WBE can serve as a viable tool in support of current methods for CVD and cancer assessment to reduce morbidities and mortalities worldwide.
