Orphan drug uttroside B impedes MASH progression and HCC development in experimental models. (PubMed, JHEP Rep)
Our discovery of Utt-B, a phytosaponin that exhibits remarkable anti-HCC potential and is a United States FDA-designated orphan drug against HCC, has gained global recognition. The present study reveals Utt-B as a propitious candidate drug against MASH and MASH-induced HCC in a high-fat diet murine model and streptozotocin-induced steatohepatitis-derived HCC animal model, respectively.

Dietary Urolithin B Suppresses Lung Tumorigenesis Correlating with Autophagy Induction and Gut Microbiota Remodeling. (PubMed, J Nutr)
These findings highlight UB as a promising dietary-derived metabolite for lung cancer prevention and therapy. Our study suggests that UB exerts its anti-tumor effects in part through the induction of autophagy associated with the AMPK/mTOR pathway and concomitant modulation of the gut microbiota, emphasizing the critical role of food-gut interactions in cancer management.

Groups included control (C57BL/6), model (normal saline), low/medium/high-dose FFQD, and western medicine (atorvastatin + metformin)...FFQD may improve insulin resistance, regulate glucose and lipid metabolism, inhibit excessive autophagy, induce macrophage polarization, resist inflammation and oxidative stress, inhibit atherosclerosis, and ultimately improve DMD by activating the RAGE/PI3K/AKT/mTOR and RAP1/PI3K/AKT/FOX01 pathways. Therefore, FFQD may be a promising candidate for DMD treatment.

Identification and single-cell analysis of prognostic genes related to mitochondrial and neutrophil extracellular traps in bladder cancer. (PubMed, Sci Rep)
Experimental validation via reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) confirmed that all six prognostic genes were significantly downregulated in BLCA clinical samples collected for this study. Pro-dermcidin and derivatives as potential therapeutics for lethal experimental sepsis. (PubMed, Front Immunol)
Although pro-DCD or its PEGylation derivatives failed to directly kill bacteria across a wide range of concentrations, they were able to activate microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain 3 (LC3), a marker of autophagy and phagosome maturation in LC3-associated bacterial phagocytosis. Our findings suggest that pro-DCD-derived agents hold promise as potential therapies for clinical sepsis.
