SOD1 at the Crossroads: Co-Overexpression of Canonical Antioxidant Response and Noncanonical Hydrogen Sulfide Generation Pathways in Down Syndrome, With Immune Cell Implications. (PubMed, Res Sq)
Conversely, the increased expression of a thioredoxin-dependent cysteine catabolism pathway suggests noncanonical H 2 S overproduction in DS distinct from CBS . Our findings highlight the unexpected relationship between oxidative stress homeostasis and H 2 S overproduction in DS, extending beyond Hsa21 trisomy.

Forty-year Development Alongside Juntendo University's Department of Hematology. (PubMed, Juntendo Med J)
The serum level of interleukin-16 (IL-16) was significantly higher in stage III patients, which is produced by activated CD8+ T cell and can induce CD4+ T cell activation. I would like to express my deep gratitude to CEO Hideoki Ogawa and the many other people at Juntendo University for giving me the opportunity to work at a university that is experiencing such incredible growth.

Plasma vascular endothelial growth factor levels are a potential therapy-response biomarker for pancreatic cancer. (PubMed, Front Oncol)
We investigated retrospectively whether a panel of selected cytokines could be used as a potential biomarker to assess treatment response and predict the prognosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients (n=19) treated with combination of Gemcitabine, nab-Paclitaxel and all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), in the Phase I trial (STARPAC, NCT03307148). Of the six cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-8, IL-16, VEGF, IL-1RA and RANTES) assessed from the STARPAC trial, we propose that VEGF could serve as a potential biomarker for eventual therapy response, as early as the second chemotherapy cycle (of six). VEGF as a potential therapy response biomarker will need to be tested in phase II randomized controlled trial.

Integrated analysis of detoxification pathways and hepatotoxicity of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) in the Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum). (PubMed, Ecotoxicol Environ Saf)
Together, these results delineate a metabolism-oxidative stress-hepatotoxicity cascade for BHT in bivalves, providing novel mechanistic insights into SPA-induced toxicity. Our findings highlight the ecological risks posed by persistent SPAs in marine environments and underscore their potential to compromise the health of sentinel bivalves, supporting their inclusion in environmental monitoring and regulatory frameworks.

CCR7 Promotes Neutrophil Recruitment and N2 Polarization Through Regulation of IL-16 in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma. (PubMed, Int Dent J)
These findings establish CCR7 as a key regulator of IL-16-mediated neutrophil recruitment and N2 polarization in HNSCC, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target to remodel the immunosuppressive tumour microenvironment.

Prognostic value and biological role of STING-related genes GAB3 and IL16 in lung adenocarcinoma: implications for immune evasion and treatment. (PubMed, Sci Rep)
In vitro experiments demonstrated that GAB3 overexpression inhibited cancer cell proliferation and migration, while siRNA-mediated knockdown of GAB3 promoted these processes, suggesting its role as a tumor suppressor gene. In conclusion, GAB3 and IL16 are key prognostic markers, providing insights into STING-related immunotherapy strategies for LUAD.

Association of Immune Cells, Inflammatory Cytokines, and Lung Cancer: A Mediating Mendelian Randomization Study. (PubMed, Mediators Inflamm)
CD28 expression on CD39+ CD4+ T cells was positively correlated to lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) risk (OR, 1.0335 [95% CI, 1.009-1.0586]), inversely mediated by IL-16 (95% CI, -0.01 to -0.0003). These findings reveal the associations between immune cells, inflammatory cytokines, and lung cancer risk, providing insights into cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Molecular and biochemical pathologies in human alcohol-related cerebellar white matter degeneration. (PubMed, Adv Drug Alcohol Res)
Human AUD WM degeneration is associated with oligodendrocyte dysfunction, which mechanistically could be mediated by impairments in insulin/IGF signaling through Akt/GSK-3β or Notch pathway activation. Future studies should focus on the non-invasive detection and monitoring of AUD-related oligodendrocyte pathology through the analysis of cell-type-specific exosomes isolated from peripheral blood.

A Prognostic Risk Signature Based on Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells and Regulatory T Cells in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma. (PubMed, Technol Cancer Res Treat)
Moreover, patients with a high risk score demonstrated a poorer response to anti-PD1/PDL1 therapy (NIVOLUMAB), along with worse progression-free survival (PFS, p = 0.0042)...This signature can differentiate between immune and clinical features, enabling the prediction of both clinical and immunotherapy prognoses. However, some PCR experiments did not fully validate the bioinformatics results.

Multiplexed immune profiling and 3D co-culture assays to assess the individual checkpoint therapy response in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. (PubMed, Front Oncol)
In addition, a 3D co-culture model using tumor slices and autologous mononuclear cells from selected HNSCC patients were analyzed upon atezolizumab and pembrolizumab treatment. This study provides proof-of-principle data suggesting that a combined multiplexed marker profiling and a functional 3D co-culture assay may help to explore predictive ICI response for HNSCC patients in the future. However, extensive studies with larger cohorts are warranted to validate and refine this approach.
