Moreover, it was found that HMMR can significantly enhance proliferation and migration in colon cancer cells by regulating the mTOR signaling pathway. In conclusion, HMMR plays an important role in promoting progression in colon cancer cells and is expected to be a potential therapeutic target.

We thus provide, for the first time, evidence that HMMR does have oncoprotein-like properties in neuroblastoma cells and that HMMR expression has potential as a prognostic marker. Moreover, initial biochemical analyses highlight a potential influence for HMMR in MTOR and DDR pathway regulation.

In human HCC samples, the combination of collagen content, a surrogate for increased matrix stiffness, and increased HMMR expression predicted poor survival of HCC patients. We define a new mechanotransduction axis of SCD1/HMMR that enhances HCC invasion and metastasis in response to increased matrix stiffness, providing a new therapeutic target against stiffness-driven HCC invasion and metastasis.
