Can some inflammatory parameters predict the survival of patients with malignant pleural effusion? (PubMed, Turk Gogus Kalp Damar Cerrahisi Derg)
Poor prognostic factors that were found to be statistically significant were high CRP (p=0.001), high NLR (p=0.001), high PLR (p=0.02), and high serum LDH-to-pleural LDH ratio (p=0.04). Some serum inflammatory markers, including high CRP, high NLR, high PLR, and high serum LDH-to-pleural LDH ratio, can be a simple and inexpensive method in predicting prognosis in patients with MPE.

Host Response in Critically Ill Patients Aged 65 Years or Older: A Prospective Study. (PubMed, Clin Interv Aging)
Older patients, particularly those over 85, exhibited lower biomarker levels and higher mortality rates. The predictive model developed from inflammatory, immune, and coagulation markers demonstrated robust prognostic utility, aiding in the evaluation of critically ill elderly patients.

Prognostic significance of LAT1 expression in pleural mesothelioma. (PubMed, Heliyon)
Notably, high LAT1 expression proved to be a significant predictor of outcome, particularly in the subgroup with high PLR and SII. LAT1 was a significant predictor of outcomes in patients with PM and was more predictive of worse outcomes in patients with high inflammatory and low nutritional status.

STAT3 Contributes a Favorable Response to Pembrolizumab Through IFN-γ-induced Apoptosis in Urothelial Cancer. (PubMed, Anticancer Res)
In patients with advanced UC, STAT3 plays a key role in mediating the efficacy of pembrolizumab through apoptosis in response to IFN-γ.

Predictive value of platelet-to-lymphocyte and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in HCC treated with sorafenib and radioembolization. (PubMed, JHEP Rep)
However, not all patients respond well to these treatments. In our analysis, using blood test parameters showing systemic inflammation status, we were able to identify patients who would benefit more from combined treatment with a locoregional treatment of radioembolization (or selective internal radiation therapy).

The prognostic value of combined preoperative PLR and CA19-9 in patients with resectable gallbladder cancer. (PubMed, Updates Surg)
The preoperative PLR and serum CA19-9 are associated with prognosis of patients with GBC. The combination of PLR and CA19-9 may serve as a significant prognostic biomarker for GBC patients superior to either PLR or CA19-9 alone.

Clinical impact of inflammatory and nutrition index based on metabolic tumor activity in non‑small cell lung cancer treated with immunotherapy. (PubMed, Oncol Lett)
In conclusion, metabolic tumor glycolysis determined by MTV was identified as a predictor for the outcome of PD-1 blockade under the high inflammatory and low nutritional conditions, in particular, when treated with a first-line PD-1 blockade. A high MTV under high PLR and SII and low ALI in the first-line setting could be more predictive of ICI treatment than other combinations.

The potential association of peripheral inflammatory biomarkers in patients with papillary thyroid cancer before radioiodine therapy to clinical outcomes. (PubMed, Front Endocrinol (Lausanne))
We found that higher PLR values was associated with poor clinicopathological features in PTC. However, the peripheral inflammatory indicators (NLR, LMR and PLR) may be insufficient to predict short-term clinical outcomes of patients with radioiodine therapy.

Usefulness of the preoperative inflammation-based prognostic score and the ratio of visceral fat area to psoas muscle area on predicting survival for surgically resected adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction. (PubMed, Esophagus)
Both PLR and V/P ratios may be useful prognostic biomarkers in surgical cases of AEG. V/P ratio and BMI may provide an accurate understanding of the muscle and fat mass's precise nature and may help predict AEG prognosis.
