BGN also phenocopied the effects of RAC1b or TAp73 on the expression of downstream effectors, like the EMT markers E-cadherin, Vimentin and SNAIL, as well as on negative regulation of the ALK2-SMAD1/5 arm of TGF-β signaling. Collectively, we showed that tumor-suppressive TAp73-Smad4-Bgn signaling also operates in human cells and that RAC1b likely acts as an upstream activator of this pathway.

The Diagnostic and Prognostic Value of the Immune Checkpoint BGN in Thymoma. (PubMed, Biochem Genet)
Clinical data dictated that thymoma patients exhibiting elevated BGN expression underwent longer hospital stays, longer lengths in intensive care units, greater hospitalization costs, and extended ventilator usage; our study, augmented by clinical information, recognized BGN as possessive of diagnostic and prognostic significance in thymoma through in silico and molecular verification experiments. Our findings offered an important objective for thymoma-treated autoimmune disease comprehension, supplemented by the strong association with immune infiltration.

Biglycan and reduced glycolysis are associated with breast cancer cell dormancy in the brain. (PubMed, Front Oncol)
Dormant cancer cells were further characterized by a reduced expression of glycolysis genes in vivo, and inhibition of glycolysis in vitro resulted in a reversible growth arrest reminiscent of dormancy. Our study identified mechanisms that could be targeted to induce/maintain cancer dormancy and thereby prevent metastatic relapse.

Single-Cell Spatial Analysis Identifies Regulators of Brain Tumor-Initiating Cells. (PubMed, Cancer Res)
This study points to the spatial heterogeneity of ECM molecules in GBM and suggests that the biglycan-LRP6 axis could be a therapeutic target to curb tumor growth. Characterization of the spatial heterogeneity of glioblastoma identifies regulators of brain tumor-initiating cells and tumor growth that could serve as candidates for therapeutic interventions to improve the prognosis of patients.

Long noncoding RNA ZEB1-AS1 attenuates ferroptosis of gastric cancer cells through modulating miR-429/BGN axis. (PubMed, J Biochem Mol Toxicol)
The erastin and RSL3 were used to induce ferroptosis. The expression of ZEB1-AS1 and BGN was enhanced and miR-429 expression was decreased in clinical GC tissues. ZEB1-AS1 attenuated ferroptosis of cancer cells by modulating miR-429/BGN axis.

SDLNN classification accuracy was 85.3% (110 out of 129; 95%CI = 78.1% to 90.3%). BGN protein expression is reduced in breast cancer tissue, compared to normal tissue.
