Antibodies against Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier Activating Enzyme May Be a Protective Factor from Rapid Progressive Interstitial Lung Disease in Patients Bearing Antibodies against Melanoma Differentiation Associated Gene 5. (PubMed, J Clin Med)
Anti-SAE antibodies were negatively correlated with RPILD as analyzed by univariate (OR = 0.245, p = 0.017) and multivariate (OR = 0.058, p = 0.036) regressions, indicating that they may be a protective factor in relation to RPILD (OR = 0.543, p = 0.008) or fatality (OR = 0.707, p = 0.012), which was also demonstrated in subgroup analyses. In contrast to various risk factors for RPILD or mortality, anti-SAE antibodies might conversely be a protective factor in anti-MDA5+ patients.

Rad51 and Systemic Inflammatory Indicators as Novel Prognostic Markers in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma. (PubMed, Technol Cancer Res Treat)
Our study found a close correlation between elevated Rad51 expression and inflammatory markers. High Rad51 expression, high neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and low lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio are associated with lower survival rates. The combined assessment of Rad51 and inflammatory markers can be useful for preoperative assessment and prognostic evaluation in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients.

Risk factors of hepatocellular carcinoma in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis. (PubMed, Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci)
Our results showed that advanced liver fibrosis, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, older age, male, alcohol intake, smoking, PNPLA3 genotype variation, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet counts, and low albumin levels were all significant risk factors for HCC in NAFLD. However, dyslipidemia was not found to be a risk factor. Further exploration is needed to confirm whether Hispanic ethnicity and high ferritin levels are also risk factors.

Correlation between Disease Biomarkers and Hemoglobin F Levels in Sickle Cell Patients (ASH 2023)
Hydroxyurea is a tremendously important drug in the management of patients with sickle cell complications due to its ability to stimulate production of fetal hemoglobin (HbF)...Although there have been prior studies that demonstrate higher levels of HbF are correlated with better patient outcomes, we observed that there is no significant relationship between HbF and biomarker levels of T. bili, LDH, AST, ALT and albumin in these 496 SCD patients. These findings suggest that there may be factors other than HbF levels that play a role in the presence and progression of complications in patient with SCD.

The association of blood biomarkers with treatment response and adverse health outcomes in older patients with solid tumors: A systematic review. (PubMed, J Geriatr Oncol)
Most studies did not find a significant association between blood biomarkers and clinical outcomes. The interpretation of current evidence on prognostic blood biomarkers is hampered by small sample sizes and inconsistent results across heterogeneous studies. The choice for blood biomarkers in the majority of included studies seemed driven by availability in clinical practice in retrospective cohort studies. Ageing biomarkers are rarely studied in older patients with solid tumors. Further research is needed in larger and more homogenous cohorts that combine clinical parameters and biomarkers before these can be used in clinical practice.

The impact of C-reactive protein-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY) index on the prognosis of patients with distal cholangiocarcinoma following pancreaticoduodenectomy. (PubMed, Ann Gastroenterol Surg)
